4 good reasons to use DEFA WarmUp, the idle free charging and heating system in your vehicle

The frozen side mirror of a car.

Getting into a warmer vehicle in the morning is not the only benefit. Here are the four best reasons to get DEFA WarmUp.

1. Increased comfort and safety

Any choice between an aggressively cold and a pleasantly preheated vehicle is easy. Ducking out of the cold and into welcoming warmth provides a much-improved start to your journey. Not having to spend precious morning minutes scraping stubborn ice off the windows is another welcome relief resulting in a safer and more relaxing drive.

2. Reduced harmful emissions.

A cold start causes even new vehicles to release the same amount of harmful emissions in the first 30 seconds as a heated vehicle emits in nearly 300km/190 miles of driving. This alarming revelation comes from a study conducted by scientists at Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, and the University of California. Increased emissions from cold starts make the air we breathe decidedly unhealthy, especially for those of us who live in densely populated areas. For anyone up to date on climate science, the unfortunate implications for the future should be clear.

By using an idle-free charging and heating system, you can minimize your carbon footprint in your local area as well as in the global environment. Studies have shown that electrical preheating can reduce emissions by up to 71%!

3. Reduced fuel consumption.

Who says environmentalism and the economy are at odds? Reducing fuel consumption is a double benefit. A preheated vehicle uses less fuel to bring the engine to its ideal operating temperature. This results in less engine rpm required to support the alternator in providing enough power to function heated seats, heated steering wheels, and defroster systems, etc.

4. Reduced Engine Wear

Cold starting a vehicle is a bit like forcing it straight from bed and into a 100-meter dash – you might not notice at once, but harm is likely to occur. A cold engine has cold oil and cold oil is thicker making it less able to lubricate the engine effectively. That’s not ideal. Your engine also reacts to the cold and is much happier when it’s sufficiently warm.

How it works – WarmUp idle-free charging and heating system:

What is WarmUp, idle-free charging, and heating system?

WarmUp consists of 3 components that can be installed separately or in different combinations. This innovative solution can be combined with a programmable control unit to take full advantage of the system’s features and benefits.

Interior Heater

The interior heater warms the air of the cabin making it more comfortable reducing the need for heated steering wheels, defrosters, and similar heating functions. When these aren’t used, the engine uses less fuel to run the alternator which is responsible for providing electrical power. A warmer interior also contributes to reducing ice/snow accumulation and helps prevent fogging.

Engine Heater

The engine heater preheats the engine and/or the oil, ensuring better lubrication and reduced friction. This reduces wear and fuel consumption. We create custom engine heaters for several vehicles on the market.

Onboard smart charger

DEFA Onboard Smart Charger is designed for modern battery technology to improve battery reliability and life span thanks to its advanced software and performance. Furthermore, preventing a complete discharge helps preserve all electronic settings of your vehicle.

DEFA AppProgrammable control unit

A complementary component of the WarmUp kit is available either with an in-cabin control unit (Futura) or with Bluetooth (Smartphone) connectivity. It allows you to separately control the heating components from the charging function and to program your heating system so your vehicle is ready when you need it without wasting electricity or using fuel. The Bluetooth solution offers the convenience of connecting your smartphone device at no additional cost (no subscription is required).
