Expanding destination charging with DEFA and Wattif: “Our mantra is Plug-and-Charge”

Since the start in 2021, Wattif has grown rapidly, and the future plans are ambitious.
“We are being clear that we are going for quality,” asserts Robert Svendsen, CEO of Wattif – one of the leading Charge Point Operators in Europe and one of the DEFA partners that has chosen DEFA Power as their main solution for destination charging in the Nordic countries.

In just a few years, Wattif has grown from zero to 35,000 charge points. The company now operates in six countries, and its expansion plan is aggressive.

“The basic idea for us as a CPO is to make parking places into charging places; a possibility for a landlord to provide EV charging where cars are parked,” says CEO Robert Svendsen, continuing: “We saw a possibility back in 2021 to build an infrastructure company that can own EV charging, scale that, and make sure that our customers can also increase the value of their parking places.”

Creating the best user experience in the world

When asked, “What can I expect when I arrive at a Wattif facility?”, Svendsen answers:
“We have set ourselves at a relatively high ambition level, and we say that – together with DEFA – we are now building the best user experience in the world for destination charging. Our mantra is plug-and-charge! And that’s not only for the new cars. We also want to build a plug-and-charge solution for all EVs.”

“Obviously, the display where you can scan the barcode directly, is very important,” says Svendsen when explaining why Wattif chose DEFA Power. Image from Eliaden 2024, Norway.

“We have chosen DEFA Power as our absolute number one solution for destination charging because it’s a very good charger. High quality, robust, and also very compliant with the OCPP standard, which is very important,” says Svendsen, emphasizing that cost of ownership, user-friendliness for the end customer, compliance, and safety are prioritized for Wattif, and DEFA Power meets all these requirements.
