If you own a DEFA Power home charger and want to keep track of your electricity consumption and charge your car at the lowest cost, you can do it with just a few quick clicks on your phone.

The skyrocketing electricity prices have hardly escaped anyone’s notice. At DEFA, we know that many electric and hybrid vehicle owners want to be able to schedule their charging and avoid charging during price peaks. That’s why we’ve developed PowerSmart in the DEFA Power app.

“We are proud to offer our customers PowerSmart – a feature we have developed from our office in Gothenburg, and one that we truly see a need for among our customers. With it, you can charge when electricity prices are low, and you have full control over your electricity consumption,” says Johan Holmstrand, Product Manager at DEFA’s subsidiary, CloudCharge, which is behind the DEFA Power app for the DEFA Power charging station.

He continues:
“Additionally, through the app, you can decrease the power when charging, and control how much electricity you currently use. This, of course, prolongs the charging time, but it means you won’t have to pay extra fees for any power peaks when they come into effect. If you charge at lower power, for example in the morning or evening when electricity consumption in your home is high, you will use less electricity during those hours. That saves you money. In other words, it pays off not to use a lot of electricity at the same time.”

“We have customers who save up to 10 Euros per night by using PowerSmart. What do you prefer: being able to spend several hundred Euros per year on a trip, clothes, or something else you need? Or do you rather charge during price peaks, even though it’s so easy to avoid? I choose smart charging; I have a plug-in hybrid, and despite driving longer distances on gasoline, I saved more than 100 Euros in 2022, just by avoiding charging during price peaks.”

PowerSmart is independent of electricity providers and networks
The only requirement for using PowerSmart is that you have an Internet-connected DEFA Power charging station. The app retrieves up-to-date prices from Nord Pool, and based on the savings you want to achieve, it optimizes your charging. It is completely independent of electricity providers and networks and can be used with all rechargeable vehicles on the market. In the app, you can also preprogram the days when you want PowerSmart activated, and if you need immediate charging, you can easily turn the feature off and start charging right away.

A similar feature is also available for those who have a DEFA eRange IQ charging station, where the feature is called EcoMode.
